Hamodava send-off

People joke about Salvos being “teetotallers” but did you know that in the late 1800s we actually produced and sold our own brand of tea?

Called Hamodava Tea, it was purchased from overseas, packaged and sold to fund the work of the Salvos in Australia.

In 1898, the Missionary Teaship Hamodava set sail from Southport. The Salvation Army Gold Coast history book states not with the breaking of the traditional bottle of champagne on the bow, but after the fashion which becometh our company – by prayer and faith for its success.
