General William Booth – the founder of the worldwide Salvation Army – visited Ipswich in 1891 and again in 1895.

A home league (women’s ministry – pictured right) was established in 1912 and a year later the songster and young peoples’ brigades began.

The corps has conducted many forms of outreach over the years with open-air ministry, broadcasts on local radio station 4IP, school religious instruction and services to the community in times of natural (floods, droughts and sickness) and man-made (mining) disasters. During the two world wars the Ipswich Salvation Army supported military personnel stationed in the area.
