The Gittins Family

The family “Gittins” is well known throughout The Salvation Army in Australia, with its brood of officers and faithful soldiers. Originating from the Lockyer Valley, the Gittins family have been integral to the operation of the Helidon Salvation Army and by 1950 the family had produced seven candidates for The Salvation Army’s training college! Pictured right are Eleanor, Allen and Sylvia (seated) and Eric and Harold (standing), all members of the Helidon Gittins family who became Salvation Army officers. Today, Laura and Tim Gittins serve as The Salvation Army officers in Bonnells Bay on the NSW Central Coast and Stan Gittins is manager of the nearby Toowoomba Crisis Accommodation service.
