Woombye Camp
In March 1894, the work of The Salvation Riders was wrapped up and full-time Salvation Army officers – Captain Callender and Lieutenant Barker – appointed to oversee new Woombye Camp.
The Salvation Army Nambour history book records that The incessant rains continued and the officers dubbed Wooombye: the water-spout of Queensland! Despite the inclement weather and the rugged terrain, The Salvation Army in the area spread and soon had many outposts from Diddillibah to Yandina to North Arm and Eumundi. ‘Razorback’ (Montville) was the most inaccessible, but nevertheless the work there flourished.
A growing outpost at Buderim Mountain also ministered to the camps of the local sugar cane workers from the South Sea Islands (pictured.)
