Working with our youth

The Salvation Army in Nambour has as long association with youth work, running children’s and young people’s groups since its inception.

In 1975, The Salvation Army began work with homeless young people in Brisbane, setting up “The Haven” in Coorparoo.

In 1980, at the request of the State Government, a satellite service was set up in Nambour, offering accommodation and drug referral services for young people on the streets. In 1982, a new Salvation Army youth and community centre opened.

Today, Nambour Salvation Army has a thriving Sunday School and Junior Soldier program, and is linking up with the other Salvation Army churches in the Sunshine Coast to help run youth groups.
