Working with our youth

The Salvation Army’s Youth Outreach Service (YOS) is dedicated to helping young people overcome adversity and build independence. YOS has its roots back in the 1970s when The Salvation Army commenced a street outreach program at Lackey Avenue in Coorparoo. Its services grew and in 1998 it won a Job Placement Education and Training Program contract for the Lawnton area. In 2001 YOS expanded its successful alternative education program  to Lawnton. Today, The Salvation Army’s Youth Outreach Program at Lawnton is an independent school offering an alternative learning program and flexible learning centre, anger management sessions, assessment and referral for other agencies, and the Rock and Water program for girls and young women. Community youth outreach is also undertaken from the Lawton YOS centre.
