South Burnett - an amalgamation

The Salvation Army in South Burnett came about in 2003 as an amalgamation of Salvation Army churches and services in the area around Kingaroy.

Nanango was the first Salvation Army work to start in the area in 1889, followed by Murgon in 1907.

The Salvation Army first began work in Kingaroy in 1910 when Captain James Johnson, the Salvation Army officer from Murgon, would walk from Murgon to Kingaroy every month to conduct cottage meetings.

On 11 January 1911, Kingaroy was named a Salvation Army centre in its own right and Ensign Morter and Lieutenant Nowlands were its first officers. The Salvation Army began in Blackbutt soon afterwards.
