Making music
Music has always been an integral part of Salvation Army ministry. In the early days, The Salvation Army band used to march down the streets of Newtown and Glebe, calling people to open-air meetings or back to the Salvation Army hall. Today, music remains a key element of worship services and outreach in the community. A community choir operated at Glebe Salvos for a number of years. Called The Glebe Choir, it was made up of people who were undertaking The Salvation Army’s Bridge Program or who had graduated from the program. In 2013, the choir had the privilege of singing with Stan Walker (pictured right.) The choir is now no longer operating at Glebe, but continues through The Salvation Army’s William Booth House Recovery Services Centre.
