The Salvation Army in Glebe

Glebe has been part of the Sydney Community since 1859. The Salvation Army arrived in Glebe in 1885. Thirty years on, in 1911, land was purchased and a building was constructed on 9 Ross Street, Forest Lodge. The Salvos have been in its present location, in the Glebe Community, when the building was opened by Commissioner James Hay on 6 July 1911. After 79 years, The Salvation Army in Glebe went into a “Recess” period. But not for long. In 1996, the Salvos reopened the doors and the work in the area. Since that time, Glebe Salvos has grown into a healthy church congregation and an active member in the local community.
