Making music
Music has always been an integral ministry of The Salvation Army on Sydney’s north shore. The first entry in the St Leonards Salvation Army history book in October 1889 records a drum being purchased! Pictured right is the earliest available photo of the North Sydney Band, taken May 1899. The North Sydney Salvation Army band has been highly regarded over the years and had the privilege of providing support for Commissioner Coutts in the first Army TV presentation on Channel 7 in Sydney in 1958. Today, the Chatswood Salvation Army band continues to play during Sunday worship and at key community events throughout the year.
