In times of need

It’s often said that The Salvation Army has a ministry of “presence” – of being there in times of need.

The Salvation Army in the Sutherland Shire has responded to several emergency incidents and maintains several Salvation Army Emergency Services teams that are trained and ready for deployment. In 1994, The Salvation Army was on hand to support emergency services personnel and residents affected by bushfires that raged through the Sutherland Shire. Menai Emergency Services Officer, June Clinch told the St George and Sutherland Shire Leader in 2000, We didn’t have a proper trailer in those days some loaded our van with drinks and went in.

The Salvation Army has also responded to the 1997 bushfires, flooding in Wollongong and the Sydney hail storms.
