The START Community aims to address the need to reach out and be a force for recovery and reclamation, for people of all backgrounds
Berwick, is one of several Melbourne suburbs that have seen the greatest increase in crime over the past 12 months. It is due to this noticeable increase in drug-related issues within the community, that the START concept was born.
The Salvation Army has long been recognised as a caring not for profit organisation aimed at helping individuals in the community. START is located at the Berwick Salvation Army Corps which has been a culturally diverse Corps for over 5 years, with specific and unique contact with the Eastern African cultures, specifically South Sudanese.
The START Community aims to address the need to reach out and be a force for recovery and reclamation, for people of all backgrounds.
At The Salvation Army START we value human dignity, justice, hope, compassion and community. Our staff have many years experience and have seen many success stories—restoring suffering people's sense of worth and dignity. We look to help the individual break free—in mind, body and spirit to making healthy choices and decisions.
