"I was lost and now I'm found, I was blind and now I see” –it's an experience most people can relate to.
Those words are life reflections of John Newton, a slave trader who nearly died in a shipwreck, and who eventually became a minister. He penned the famous words of "Amazing Grace" for a sermon for his 1773 New Years’ service at the Church of St. Peter and St. Paul – 250 years ago.
We at Brisbane City Temple wish to make a worthy celebration of Amazing Grace in word and music, and tell the origin story of the song, and its impact.
Given the anti-slavery source of John Newton’s experience we want to take the opportunity to present the compelling anti-slavery campaign story and call to actions for the audience in Brisbane.
