Maddyson's story
Thanks to the Salvos I like going to school now.
At my old school I was getting into trouble, not doing classwork, not doing schoolwork, truanting class, fighting people’s battles, doing things for them more than myself. Anything that went wrong I was like very defensive and very angry, I was very aggressive and I was treating my family badly. I didn’t like going to school so I would stay home, sleep, do things at home.
The Salvos got me enrolled into another school, a flexible school that would work around everything that was going on. It had one-on-one connection, it was a smaller school and the classes were smaller and things were going to be easier. Since I got enrolled and started at this new school I have been wanting to go to school more, get involved more at school and feel safer at school and things have changed.
The Salvation Army program, “Reconnect”, has helped me reconnect with my family, reconnect with school, reconnect with friends. If the Salvos didn’t help me get into my new school I would have been in juvenile detention because my behaviour was that bad. My Salvation Army worker has been by my side for three years and if I need anyone to talk to I can just message her or call her to talk.
