Thousands of Australians can no longer afford the very basics for their loved ones.

Despite skipping meals, cancelling activities, and cutting every extra expense, many parents are still struggling to stay afloat.

That’s why the 2023 Red Shield Appeal is dedicated to helping Aussies like Sharon, who are struggling to survive…

Sharon’s whole world turned upside down when her husband Mike became critically ill.

Sharon was driving 150km every day just to be by her husband’s side, but it wasn’t long before the harsh reality of fuel prices hit hard.

“I couldn’t pay for fuel to visit Mike in hospital and pay the rent too. Putting food on the table was even harder. I was feeding my sons, and I wasn’t eating myself.”

Sharon finally reached the breaking point when they were being evicted. She says she drove her son to school, dropped him off and just sat in the car and cried:

“What do I do now? What do I do?’  I felt hopeless, lost, confused, and so alone.”

Through the support of caring Salvos supporters like you, Sharon got the compassionate and practical help she needed to stay afloat.

What’s alarming though, is that the number of people like Sharon accessing homelessness services due to an inability to pay rent - has risen by 27% in four years.

People are struggling to survive.

Your Red Shield Appeal support will mean that they won’t have to struggle alone.

Please donate to the 2023 Red Shield Appeal today.
