The Salvation Army’s Emergency Services are on the ground responding to disasters right around Australia.
In the Northern Territory, personnel have been deployed to support the operation of evacuation centres in response to Cyclone Trevor.
In the Eastern Victoria bushfires, The Salvation Army is supporting 5 evacuation centres with bedding, blankets and clothing. It takes the number of beds to 370 across the five centres including Koo Wee Rup, Drouin, Pakenham, Morwell and Sale.
In Far North Queensland, our teams are responding to the unprecedented flooding in Townsville and the surrounding areas by providing practical and emotional support. They have been serving meals and refreshments to those affected and emergency services personnel on the ground across 3 evacuation sites. So far, more than 2000 meals have been provided.
If you have been affected by these floods, information will be provided shortly about how to get assistance.
In Tasmania, our teams have been on the ground since 24th January supporting people affected by bushfires. They’ve been serving anywhere from 100 to 300 people everyday for lunch and dinner.
In Western Australia, our teams have also been on standby to respond to bushfire threats south of Perth. And in Victoria, our teams responded to an apartment fire in the Melbourne CBD this morning where they’ve been providing bedding, toiletries, clothing and other urgent supplies to those affected.
Our thoughts and prayers are with all those who are affected at this time right around the country by natural disaster and crisis.
