General's Visit to Australia 2024

Resources for unleashing Generosity in your Corps

General Lyndon Buckingham has told the Australian Salvation Army world needs to “get on with” the job of being the Army that God raised it up to be.

Here are some resources to help you and your Corps to 'get on with' the work of making disciples.

Matthew 28:19-20Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.

God gives and loves graciously and generously! We know that all we are and all we have are gifts from God. As followers of Jesus, our whole-life commitment as Salvationists is in response to God's wonderful generosity. Being generous is about aligning our priorities with God's priorities, aligning our hearts with God's heart.

Here are some current primary resources from the Mission Support's Generous Culture team for your 'getting on with it'.

Once you see your gifts from God's perspective, your giving will never be the same.

When she was a toddler, Jeff Anderson's daughter opened his eyes to how delighted God is with our gifts. She brought him a plastic donut from her play kitchen, and he was surprised by the intensity of his reaction. His delight in receiving this simple gift--and his daughter's joy in giving it--led him to dig deeper. Anderson would not rest until he found the scriptural connection between our gifts and God's heart.

Plastic Donuts removes the awkwardness and uncertainty that often accompany discussions about giving. Now you can think differently--and biblically--about what and how you give.

Your gifts can capture God's attention and connect you more intimately with His heart. Plastic Donuts brings everyone--leaders and followers, teachers and learners--onto the same page.

STUDIES FOR INDIVIDUALS AND SMALL GROUPS

Many people believe that becoming financially free is learning how to create a budget and invest for the future, but that’s only partially true.

The most important thing related to managing money is the attitude of your heart. What is the heart choice behind the money decisions you make? Do you know and take into account what your Maker has to say?

The Bible has more than 2,350 verses relating to our finances and possessions as well as wisdom concerning the handling of debt.

Money or Maker explores essential Bible teaching on how we manage our finances.

Resources for your 'Offering' segment

Whenever we bring our offerings to God it is a time of worship. It may be in your weekly meeting, it may be home groups or Bible studies or any other gathering.

However we meet, there is opportunity to teach about giving and present the opportunity to give. We can be in danger of not bringing the sense of worship that this action requires. When we do, it brings a new significance to what is happening.

Take 3-5 minutes prior to bringing our tithes and offerings to God to set the scene.
