Cashless Gaming Inquiry - ACT Legislative Assembly

In September 2023, The Salvation Army provided a submission to the ACT Legislative Assembly Standing Committee on Justice and Community Safety inquiry into Cashless Gaming.

The Salvation Army strongly supports the introduction of cashless gaming coupled with sufficient regulatory protection from those who engage in it.

As gambling often preys on people experiencing vulnerabilities or disadvantage, and can become a compulsive dependency, The Salvation Army supports any measures that will reduce the harms cause by gambling as part of a broader public health and consumer protection approach.

Beyond mandatory cashless gaming, The Salvation Army submission also recommends time and spending limits and pre-commitments to intervene between impulse and gaming. This must also be coupled with easy access to information to allow individuals to seek support and self-exclude from gambling dependency.
