Homelessness Week 2024

Everyone deserves to live in a safe, secure and affordable home. But that is not the reality for more than 122,000 people who were experiencing homelessness on Census night in 2021

The Salvation Army believes in good for Australia — and that means seeing people in stable homes where they can develop relationships, belong to a community and flourish.

We believe we can end homelessness — for good. Partner with us this Homelessness Week (5-11 August) to make this a reality.

Homelessness Week is an annual campaign coordinated by Homelessness Australia. It aims to drive awareness about homelessness, who it affects and what solutions are needed to end homelessness for Australia.

The Salvation Army is one of the largest providers of homelessness services in Australia. We take a wraparound approach to supporting people experiencing homelessness. This means supporting people to find a safe place to stay and helping people meet their needs and goals through our broad range of services. This may include help with paying bills, putting food on the table, financial counselling, family and domestic violence support, tenant advocacy, and emotional or spiritual support through our churches.

The Salvation Army’s support to people experiencing homelessness

In 2022-23, The Salvation Army provided:

A person with their arm around someone else's shoulder
306,000 sessions of care to people at risk of or experiencing homelessness
A steaming cooking pot
1.63+ million meals to people accessing Salvation Army homelessness services
A person in a bed
820,000 crisis beds to people experiencing homelessness

There's a lot of confusion about homelessness in Australia. Try our quiz, learn some facts and bust some myths.
