Therapeutic counselling

The Salvation Army’s Gambling Support offers free therapeutic counselling for anyone impacted by gambling harm.

We believe everyone deserves a safe, supportive space to explore their emotions, tackle challenges, and find practical solutions. Our therapeutic counsellors are here to guide you toward personal growth and well-being.

How Can a Therapeutic Counsellor Help?

Our counsellors are trained professionals who support individuals, couples, families, and groups with emotional, psychological, and social challenges. Here’s how we can help:

  • Work with you to set and achieve personal goals—whether they’re about relationships, mental health, or personal growth.
  • Provide a non-judgmental, confidential, and supportive space to talk things through.
  • Use tailored, evidence-based approaches like cognitive-behavioural therapy (CBT), solution-focused therapy, or mindfulness practices.
  • Help you understand your emotions, behaviours, and thought patterns to develop healthier coping strategies.
  • Identify factors contributing to gambling and help you manage triggers while building resilience.
  • Guide you through financial challenges, including understanding the risks of options like bankruptcy or early access to super, and explore safer alternatives.
  • Connect you to additional services, such as financial counsellors, psychiatrists or community programs, if needed.

Who Can Benefit?

Anyone struggling with gambling.

Whether you’re struggling yourself, worried about someone else, or just trying to better understand gambling-related behaviours, we’re here to help.
