Red Shield House 49

The Red Shield House 49 ensures safe accommodation and support is provided to address needs to disadvantaged people and those experiencing homelessness.

We provides medium term accommodation up to 12 months and Case Management support to men and women (singles and couples), 25 years of age over. (no children)

House 49 is Hostel style accommodation which accommodates up to 80 persons. All Residents are allocated a modest room and share the following common areas with other Residents -

  • Lounge room with chairs, table and television.
  • Laundry with washing machine, clothes dryer (for use at a cost), iron and ironing board.
  • Bathrooms
  • Kitchen
  • Outdoor and common areas
  • allocated smoking area

Hours of Operation

The House 49 is staffed 24/7

Reception is open Monday - Friday 8:00 am to 4:00pm.

Manager is on duty Monday – Friday 8:30am to 4:30pm (oncall duty from 4.30pm and weekends)

Case Manager is available Monday – Friday.

Support Provided:

  • Case Manager to work with you
  • Support and advocacy when talking with other services
  • Help to make appointments
  • Assistance with Centrelink
  • Assistance with housing
  • Group activities
  • Access to spiritual support with an on site Chaplin

Referrals and advocacy to:

  • Police
  • Clinic
  • NT Housing
  • Centrelink
  • Mental health services
  • Counselling Services
  • Legal services
  • Financial counselling

Positive life style skills program: We provide some living skill and social activities each week.

Street to home is attached to Red Sheild House 49 providing out reach support to homeless and people at risk of homelessness in the Darwin area.

Doorways is also based at House 49 offering ER Monday Wednesday and Friday 9am- 12pm.
