What we do…

The Port Augusta Youth Bus provides safe transportation, mentoring and referrals to young people aged between 5 years and 18 years of age.

Working specifically with at risk/vulnerable young people in Port Augusta, the service has two key focus areas:

  1. To provide safe transport to young people in Port Augusta
  2. To help young people build better relationships and make improved life choices through mentoring or connection to additional support.

Safe transport is achieved through outreach patrols undertaken between the hours of 7pm and 10pm on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday nights, and between the hours of 6pm and 2am on Friday and Saturday nights. This increases to every night of the week during school holidays.

On a limited capacity Youth Bus staff also engage with young people through mentoring relationships to help a young person to evaluate life, opportunities and improve capacity to pursue positive relationships and make good decisions. Where direct support is unable to be offered or other support needs are identified, Youth Bus staff will assist a young person to connect with support by making a referral or connection point.
