Unhurried in prayer

We live in an instant age. If I want to ask someone a question, I can give them a phone call, send an email or an SMS. Generally, I can have an instant response. The quick responses are not always the most well thought through ones.

There is benefit in slowing the processes down, waiting patiently for a response. This gives me time to think more about my request or question. It gives me time to prepare for the response.

The people of Israel had left Egypt and the Egyptians had followed them and were closing in on the Israelites. The people were afraid. Moses told the people, "Don't be afraid! Stand still and watch how the LORD will deliver you today (Exodus 14:13), and they did.

There are times when we just need to stop and wait for God to reveal himself to us. We are reminded in Psalm 46:10 to ‘Be still and know that I am God.’

As you pray this week

  • Ask God to show you the areas in your life where you need to slow down
  • What are you impatient about?
  • What is God saying to you about this?
  • What do you need to stop doing so that you can focus on what God is doing?
  • What do you notice as you slow down?
  • Where do you see God active?
