Everything rises and falls on leadership – John Maxwell
The Salvation Army in Rockingham is committed to developing Christian leaders, recognizing that leadership as God sees it can be very different to the view of leadership as society sees it. One of the ways we will develop leaders is by offering a Christian Leadership Internship Program.
An internship is an intentional and structured approach to learning ministry skills and growing as a Christian disciple (follower of Jesus): Tailored to the ministry abilities and desires of the applicant, our approach is also highly flexible. This internship focuses on personal spiritual formation and development, training in practical ministry skills while exploring how the gifts and talents God has given you can be used.
There are different stages to the internship program, which enables us to tailor the involvement and responsibilities of the intern. Each stage contains a description of expectations, time commitments, financial considerations as well as both the options and non-negotiables.
Who
You must be at least 18 years old to apply. The intern must be a follower of Jesus and keen to explore what ministry area they are being called to. The intern will need to have clearance for the areas of ministry they will engage in and ‘belong’ to a Christian faith community. The internship has some ‘attendance’ elements, meaning it is not totally available online.
When
The internship program is now operating. You may apply immediately. The entry stage (1) is an exploration stage involving up to 6 months timeframe with the opportunity to explore the ministry areas of your interest.
What
Interns have the choice of being involved in one or multiple ministry areas. There are regular events and training that all interns will need to be available for as we journey the Christian life and leadership together. Each intern will be assigned a mentor for the duration of their internship.
We have 3 stages of internship – Stage 1 explore, Stage 2 study (term is the length of course studied), Stage 3 responsibility (up to 12 months further). There is financial support available for Stages 2 and 3.
Possible ministry areas for practical study (Stage 2 and 3 intern):
