Mac Uni Salvos receive top award

We are delighted and proud to announce that the food bank initiative
SALT (Seek justice; Alleviate hunger; Lift the burden today;
Transforming lives), was awarded the 2012 Group Volunteer
Award by Ryde Council.

SALT is a Macquarie University student run initiative that helps
provide a better place to live for the residents of the Ivanhoe Place
Estate. The program is run in conjunction with the Salvation Army, is
proudly supported by Campus Experience and was established two years
ago.

The annual Volunteer Recognition Awards, which was held in Ryde Civic
Hall, aims to acknowledge the contribution made by unsung heroes in
the Ryde area. SALT was one of seven groups nominated for the Group
Volunteer Award, which included well established nominees such as the
Achieve Australia and Ryde Youth Theatre. Peter Fasogiannis, Campus
Experience, Business Operations Manager and Macquarie University
student Daniel Bofinger attended the event and accepted the award on
behalf of all of those involved in the project.

A huge congratulations goes to all those students, staff and members
of the Salvation Army, who worked so hard and dedicated their time to
ensure the continued success of the initiative. It is always a proud
and celebratory moment when receiving an award, however this award is
made all the more special by the knowledge that the initiative is
truly making a difference to the lives of those in our local
community.
