The 2016 Red Shield Appeal in Ryde is rapidly approaching! We are seeking volunteer doorknockers and collectors to join our Army of Hope to support us in raising much needed funds so we can continue to serve over 1 Million Australians in need every year! By giving just a few hours of your time this May you can make a big difference and bring Hope to those who need it most.
WHAT WILL I DO: Taking part in the Red Shield Appeal doorknock means hitting the streets to literally knock on doors and raise money to support the work of the Salvation Army. Upon arrival Salvation Army staff will greet and register you, before giving you training and breaking into small groups of 4-5 with your friends. After that one of our drivers (who are al’ approved to work with children) will drop you to your nominated collection area where you will literally go door to door and ask people if they would like to support the Salvos. You will be amazed by the generousity that is out there in the community! Once you have finished collecting your area our drivers will come to pick you up and take you back to the Ryde Salvation Army building to count and bank the money you raised.
WHEN CAN I COME AND VOLUNTEER: Basically the entire weekend! Please feel free to come anytime between 8am - 3pm on both Saturday 28th May and Sunday 29th May
WHERE DO I NEED TO GO: The Ryde Salvation Army Building which is at Unit 5, 112 Talavera Road, Macquarie Park (behind the Macquarie Shopping Centre). From there you will be geared up and sent out in your friendship groups to collect in the community. There is parking available on the site. For those who are travelling via public transport it’s a short 5-minute walk from the Macquarie University Train Station (click here for a link to google maps)
DO I GET ANYTHING OUT OF IT: Aside from the joy of volunteering and knowing that you have helped The Salvation Army in their mission to bring hope where it’s needed most, all of our volunteer collectors will receive a free McDonalds meal voucher. In addition you will receive a printed ‘Certificate of Volunteering’, which makes a great addition to your resume. We will also be offering free coffee, hot chocolate and a yummy sausage sizzle lunch for all of our volunteers on both Saturday and Sunday.
WHO CAN I CONTACT FOR MORE INFO: If you have any questions or concerns about the Red Shield Appeal then please don’t hesitate to get in touch with us. You can contact Captain Cheryl Kistan on her mobile number 0408 606 775 or by email at cheryl.kistan@aue.salvationarmy.org.
