With statistics showing that nearly half of all eligible Australians do not have a will, Shire Salvos set out to help locals formalise their last wishes at a Wills Day event at its Menai location earlier this year.
Organised through The Salvation Army’s Wills and Bequests Team, a Salvation Army Wills Day allows members of the public to create a ‘last will and testament’ with a solicitor at a reasonable price, with all proceeds going to the local Salvation Army.
“The Salvation Army recognises the importance of everyone having a valid Will, to assist families and loved ones, when you have passed on, ensuring your wishes are met. We offer the Wills day service as an accessible and affordable option in the community,” says Jenny Karmas, Team Leader of The Salvation Army’s NSW/ACT/QLD Wills and Bequests.
Jenny says such a day would not have been possible without the generous support of local law firm MCW Lawyers in Sutherland. “Their generosity to partner with The Salvation Army through offering pro-bono support at the Wills Day assisted many in the local community to have a simple Will written, whilst raising much needed funds to help those in need through the Shire Salvos.”
Also on hand at the Wills Day to assist locals was a representative from The Salvation Army’s Moneycare free financial counselling team.
Another Wills Day is being planned at Shire Salvos Menai for early 2023. If you’d like to find out more about writing a Will, Wills Days or leaving a Gift in Will to The Salvation Army, please visit our website www.salvationarmy.org.au/wills or call 1800337082
