Did you know... that the Salvation Army has a mission statement?
"The Salvation Army, an international movement, is an evangelical part of the universal Christian Church. Its message is based on the Bible. Its ministry is motivated by love for God. Its mission is to preach the gospel of Jesus Christ and meet human needs in his name without discrimination." (International mission statement)
The Christmas season provides the people of God the opportunity to engage in some very practical ministries to "meet human needs in his name without discrimination".
We are expecting up to 150 families to come to us for a food hamper and toys this year! It is likely that approximately half of that number will come to the corps during the morning on Wednesday 18th December to receive their assistance. Volunteers are needed - all hands on deck - to help with greeting and refreshments, registration, 'escorting' - helping parents select toys, working in the toy room, assisting with carrying items to cars, driving....
Let's be the Army that unites to serve others and though this serves Christ. Sign up on the sheet on the office window.
