Streetlevel 'Kindness Diaries'

Kerrie Allott

When speaking to people about my role at Streetlevel I often get asked about the hardships: the difficult tasks, the “difficult people”. It’s true that we face many challenges as a community, but being in community allows us opportunities to step up and be our best selves. I am regularly moved and encouraged by the acts of kindness and generosity I witness here. That’s the Streetlevel I want people to see and celebrate! So, here’s some acts of kindness I’ve witnessed in just the last two weeks that demonstrate the true heart of our community:

  • Bringing in pet food for a community member doing it particularly tough so they could feed their cats
  • Shopping around the op-shops (lots of walking!) to find and purchase a walking stick appropriate for a community member with mobility issues
  • Many individuals on a shoestring budget donating money to the bushfires
  • Shouting a stranger a cappuccino in our café
  • Offering to sweep our decking after a wind storm
  • Bringing in snacks to share with the whole community centre
  • Keeping an eye out for each other – alerting us if they haven’t seen someone for a while so we can follow up and make sure they’re ok
  • Helping staff carry car-loads of deliveries.

We truly are better together!
