Working Together

Hannah Weickhardt

In recent times one of the Streetlevel values that is being modelled both here and the world at large is helping each other where we can.

The things being done at Streetlevel to show this are not unique, many drop-in centres in the Sydney area are doing similar things to help not only those who they have had contact with in the past but those who are now seeking help in these unknown and unsettling circumstances: free takeaway meals, emergency assistance cards, phone calls to check up on people. As each space seeks to be other people focused it is helping those who come, which includes those who never dreamed of ever requiring emergency assistance.

As each of these spaces in and around the city works to be other people focused it has been great to see efforts of communication between the spaces as we work in what can be an intense and dynamic environment. There is behind the scenes sharing and compiling of documents, phone calls, email exchanges – especially as programs and operations temporarily cease or move to online and phone methods. Helping others has meant proactively working with other organisations that are seeking to help others.

If you think you or others may need help at this time, please come and ask; our contact details are on our website. We are all living in the unknown and at some point or another we may all need to be helped.
