Reconnect is an early intervention project working with young people aged 12-18 years and their families to prevent family breakdown and youth homelessness by focusing on improving family relationships and strengthening ties to education, training, work and community. Reconnect is available for young people within the Blacktown Local Government Area (NSW).
Reconnect offers support such as:
Counselling – provides an opportunity to chat to someone about things that are on your mind, where choices and opinions concerning your situation can be discussed in full privacy and confidence.
Family Mediation – provides an opportunity for people experiencing conflict to meet in a safe and confidential environment with a neutral person (mediator), talk openly about the issues and listen to each other’s point of view, discuss how things can be better and reach concrete agreements.
Case work – including assistance with Centrelink, practical assistance, providing links to alternative education / training, providing links to work experience / employment or even accommodation, assistance with referrals regarding legal and health issues.
Group work – is usually conducted at the school. Group programs are tailored to a group’s specific needs however the three primary group facilities are Self Esteem/Resilience, Conflict Resolution and Leadership. Subjects covered may include anger management, conflict resolution, communication, self esteem, bullying, leadership skills and qualities. Reconnect staff are innovative and welcome topic suggestions from group participants.
All support offered by Reconnect is free of charge. We are able to meet with the young person and their family at our Reconnect office in Mt Druitt, school or an alternative setting.
